Medicaid Managed Care
Risk-Based Managed Care (RBMC) is Indiana’s Medicaid managed care program. CareSource began operations in the state on January 1, 2005, as part of this program.
CareSource joined three other Medicaid managed care plans:
- MDwise, formed by Health and Hospital Corporation and Clarian Health Partners.
- Harmony Health Plan, operated by WellCare.
- Managed Health Services, operated by Centene.
CareSource and MDwise are nonprofit; Harmony and Managed Health Services are for profit.
Managed care plans operate across the state; however, joining a managed care plan is mandatory for Medicaid providers in 26 counties. Indiana plans to expand mandatory Medicaid managed care across the state on November 1, 2005.
As of January 1, 2005, CareSource had almost 12,000 members. By July 1, 2005, we had more than 60,000, making us the fastest-growing plan in the state.
